Fret sawing to perfection
Wire EDM is a processing method based on electrical discharge machining. Process-wise wire EDM is similar to fret sawing: a wire-like electrode creates contours in the material similar to a programmed fret saw.
The top contour can even be given a different shape opposed to the bottom contour. For this purpose, 4-axis wire EDM is used. Where necessary start holes will first be made in the material, which serve as transit points for the (threadlike) electrode. These pilot holes are made using hole-drilling EDM.
The wire is continuously replaced during the process. This means that there is no need to be concerned about wear to the electrode. That way the utmost accuracy can always be guaranteed. The electrode does not come into contact with the workpiece, therefore the workpiece is not placed under any mechanical stress whatsoever.
